Following on from my previous post where I mentioned Grandfather and his invitation to Paris in 1945 to make the first official portrait of President Charles De Gaulle so I thought I would show you an earlier portrait made by Edward when, as leader of the Free French, De Gaulle visited Edinburgh in 1942. This was arranged through Grandfathers good friend Baron Georges Marchand, who was General De Gaulle’s representative in Scotland during the Second World War. This portrait is also signed by De Gaulle and Grandfather and is also on loan to the French Embassy. We have newspaper clippings about Edwards visit to Paris in 1945 with the only negative observation he had about his experience was the lack of porridge at the Ritz!

What a superb piece of History and an episode you must be proud of.
